Does it make sense?

Yesterday the Great Unifier, President Obama, told Wall Street firms that "now is not the time for profits." When I heard that, I did a mental double-take. Where does he think paychecks come from? A magic money tree?
A profit allows companies to stay solvent, employ more workers and pay more taxes. This is basic stuff, Mr. President.
I remember learning in history class about a group of students in the late 1800's who thought the rich were evil, and should be forced to relinquish their wealth to the "poor." Of course, the poor never saw the money because the leaders horded it.
Class warfare in any country, any century only breeds more poverty. Neither the poor, nor the government, create jobs and prosperity.
Good luck getting Obama to pay your mortgage.

  1. I'd like to see something about the closing of the pool at the Kiwanis Park. Many lower income children spent their afternoons there, and now they'll have to rely on wading pools in their yards (if they have a yard) - because even if they had the money to go to the only pool in town at the Cain Center, CC doesn't have a small wading pool designed for children. I think it's a shame that there couldn't have been something worked out - such as a sign posted at the pool that anyone swimming there was doing so at their own risk, since apparently the Kiwanis was worried about liability (as well as upkeep, I think). What's next? Abandoning the entire park because they're afraid some child will get hurt playing and they'll end up on the end of a lawsuit?

  2. Well, two thoughts on the pool (sorry to hijack your Obama post, Lauren) ... first, there was a sign out there stating swimmers swam at their own risk. And second, that sign doesn't necessarily remove Kiwanis or the city from liability.
But one thing I do agree on ... that pool was always packed. From May to late August, there were lots of kids out there everyday.
